What is Automagical Nudge?

Automagical Nudge is a productivity companion for Gmail, delivered as both a Chrome Extension and a Google Workspace Add-on. It acts like a personal follow-up assistant: helping you send personalized sequences, set smart reminders, and track all un-responded emails in an AI-powered dashboard. It works on both desktop and mobile so you never lose track of an important conversation.

Is it really free?

Yes. Automagical Nudge offers a Free-for-Life plan. You get a small monthly quota of automated emails and AI credits that refresh every month, making it perfect for light users, students, or anyone who wants to try the core features indefinitely without a credit card.

What’s the difference between the Chrome Extension and the Google Workspace Add-on?

The two experiences are designed for different use cases:

  • Chrome Extension (Recommended): Full-featured desktop experience inside Gmail on Chrome. This is where you get the fastest performance and the most features (bulk nudging, command center, analytics, advanced templates, etc.).
  • Google Workspace Add-on: Optimized for the Gmail mobile app. You’ll see a green unicorn icon while composing or viewing emails and can attach nudges and reminders on the go.
For the best experience, we recommend using the Chrome Extension for desktop and the Workspace Add-on for mobile.

Do I need both the extension and the add-on?

You don’t have to install both, but many users do:

  • Install the Chrome Extension for everyday work on your laptop or desktop.
  • Install the Workspace Add-on if you also want to manage nudges and reminders from the Gmail app on iOS or Android.
Your nudges, reminders, templates, and analytics stay in sync across both experiences.

How do I install Automagical Nudge? (Simple setup)

Getting started takes about a minute:

  • Step 1 – Desktop: Install the Automagical Nudge Chrome Extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  • Step 2 – Sign in: Open Gmail in Chrome. You’ll see a Nudge bar at the bottom of Gmail saying “Sign in to use Nudge features”. Click Sign in and choose the Google account you want to use.
  • Step 3 – Mobile (optional): Install the Gmail Workspace Add-on if you’d like to manage nudges and reminders from the Gmail app on your phone.

I don’t see the Nudge sign-in bar. How do I activate Nudge?

If the sign-in bar at the bottom of Gmail isn’t visible:

  • Click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar and make sure Automagical Nudge is pinned (clicked to show a blue pin).
  • Click the green unicorn icon in the extensions bar and use the Sign in button in the popup.
  • Refresh Gmail after signing in so the Nudge panels and labels appear correctly.

How do I get started after installing?

Once the extension is installed and you’re signed in:

  • Click the top-most green unicorn on the right side of Gmail to open the Nudge panel.
  • Optionally create or customize a template under Templates.
  • Compose a new email and choose a sequence or reminder from the glowing Nudge bar at the bottom of the compose window.
  • Hit Send — Nudge will attach and manage your follow-ups automatically.

Core Features

How do automated follow-ups (nudge sequences) work?

A nudge sequence is a series of follow-up emails that Nudge sends for you on a schedule:

  • You can add unlimited steps to a sequence.
  • Each step is scheduled for a certain number of days after your original message (not after the previous nudge). For example:
    • Nudge #1: 2 days after the original email
    • Nudge #2: 5 days after the original email
  • Once you hit Send on the email, Nudge quietly sends each follow-up at the right date and time — no copy-paste needed.

Do sequences stop when I get a reply?

Yes. Sequences are designed to stop automatically as soon as the conversation is “alive” again:

  • Any reply on the thread cancels the remaining nudges — whether it’s from your recipient or from you.
  • If you manually send a follow-up on a thread with an active sequence, that also cancels the remaining nudges so you never double-email someone by accident.
  • You can manually cancel a sequence either:
    • From the Nudge sidebar on the email thread (using Cancel sequence), or
    • From the Command Center in the Chrome Extension.

Can AI help me write my follow-up emails?

Yes. When composing a sequence, click Generate with AI. Nudge will:

  • Read your original message and summarize it.
  • Draft one or more follow-ups that feel natural and on-topic.
  • Optionally personalize the emails with the recipient’s name if it’s present in the conversation.
You can regenerate as many times as you like — each click uses one AI Credit (see Plans, Credits & Usage below).

How many nudges can I add in a sequence?

Technically, you can add as many nudges as you need to a sequence. Many users keep things simple with 2–4 follow-ups. If you add too many steps and change your mind, you can remove extra nudges quickly using the red X next to each step in the template editor.

How do Smart Email Reminders work?

Reminders are like a powerful snooze button for any email:

  • You can set a reminder to bring a thread back to the top of your inbox at a specific time (e.g., “In 3 days”, “Next Monday”, “In 2 hours”).
  • You can add multiple reminders to the same thread (e.g., one in 2 days and one in 2 weeks).
  • Reminders automatically deactivate if someone replies or if you cancel them from the sidebar or Command Center.
This is a great lightweight alternative to tools like Boomerang or FollowUpThen.

What’s the difference between a reminder and a nudge sequence?

  • Reminder: Nudge reminds you to follow up. The thread resurfaces in your inbox at the chosen time, but Nudge doesn’t send an automatic email to the recipient.
  • Nudge sequence: Nudge sends automatic follow-up emails to your recipient according to your schedule, until there’s a reply or you cancel the sequence.
Most users combine both: sequences for outbound outreach and reminders for high-stakes threads they want to personally handle.

How do I attach a nudge sequence to an email I’ve already sent or received?

You can attach a sequence even after the email is sent:

  • Open the sent or received email thread in Gmail.
  • Open the Nudge sidebar by clicking the green unicorn on the right-hand side.
  • Choose either a sequence or a reminder from the sidebar.
  • Click Apply sequence (or set your reminder) to attach it to that thread.
Nudge will start tracking the thread and sending follow-ups according to the sequence schedule.

How do I see or edit an active nudge sequence on a thread?

Open any thread with an active sequence, and you’ll see:

  • A green banner at the top of the thread, e.g. “Nudge active (0/2)” — meaning zero of two scheduled nudges have been sent.
  • An expanded panel in the Nudge sidebar showing each scheduled step, including dates, times, and content.
  • Buttons to Edit sequence or Cancel sequence directly from that view.
You can also manage all active sequences centrally from the Command Center.

How do I send bulk nudges (apply a sequence to multiple emails at once)?

Bulk nudging lets you attach a single sequence to many emails in one action:

  • In your Gmail inbox, select the checkboxes next to the threads you want to nudge.
  • After you select at least one thread, a small green unicorn appears in the toolbar just under the Gmail search bar (next to icons like refresh).
  • Click the unicorn and choose the sequence template you want to apply.
  • Nudge will attach that template to every selected thread using the template as-is.
Note: When bulk nudging, you can’t customize each individual message’s content per thread (per-thread customization for bulk is on our roadmap).

What is the Inbox Monitor?

Inbox Monitor is an AI-powered list of emails that Nudge thinks deserve your attention:

  • It scans your recent emails (typically from the last month).
  • It looks for messages you haven’t replied to or that appear to have open action items.
  • It surfaces them in a single view so you can quickly decide:
    • Whether to reply
    • Ignore or clear the item
    • Or auto-generate a reply with AI
You can access Inbox Monitor from the Command Center in the left-hand Nudge menu.

What do the icons in Inbox Monitor mean?

In Inbox Monitor, each row has quick actions:

  • 👁 (Eye): Open the email thread in Gmail to read the full conversation.
  • ☑ (Checkbox): Mark the item as resolved for now. If new action items appear on that thread later, it may resurface.
  • 💀 (Skull): Kill this thread permanently for Inbox Monitor. Nudge will stop surfacing this thread in Inbox Monitor, even if it has future activity.
  • ✨ (Sparkle): Open an AI-powered auto-reply composer so you can quickly send a thoughtful response or edit the suggested reply.

How does personalization work in my emails?

Nudge is built for 1-to-1 style outreach, not spammy blasts:

  • You can use dynamic variables (such as the recipient’s name) in your templates.
  • The AI generator can pull in the recipient’s name when it’s present in your draft.
  • Templates are designed to sound natural and personal, as if you wrote each message yourself.
This makes Nudge a great fit for sales, recruiting, and relationship-driven outreach.

Does Nudge support rich formatting like bold, links, or images?

Yes. Nudge has full rich-text support:

  • Use bold, italics, bullet lists, and numbered lists.
  • Add links and inline images.
  • Your formatting is preserved in templates, sequences, and reminders.

Does it really work on the Gmail mobile app?

Yes. When you install the Automagical Nudge Workspace Add-on:

  • You’ll see a Nudge unicorn icon inside the Gmail app on iOS and Android.
  • You can apply sequences and set reminders from your phone.
  • Any changes you make on mobile sync back to your desktop experience.
Note that the mobile add-on is lighter than the Chrome Extension and is meant primarily for on-the-go use.

Can I reuse my follow-up messages?

Absolutely. You can create and save an unlimited number of Reusable Templates:

  • Sales outreach sequences
  • Recruiting check-ins
  • Customer success follow-ups
  • Event and webinar reminders
You can edit these templates at any time and attach them to new emails or existing threads with a couple of clicks.

Plans, Credits & Usage

What are AI Credits?

AI Credits are monthly credits that power all of the AI features in Automagical Nudge. Each time you:

  • Click “Generate with AI” on a sequence, or
  • Use AI to summarize and suggest replies (for example, in Inbox Monitor),
Nudge uses one AI Credit for that generation. If you regenerate a sequence multiple times, each click uses an additional credit.

AI Credits refresh every month based on your plan. You can purchase an additional AI subscription on the Automagical Nudge page if you need a higher monthly quota.

Do my AI Credits roll over if I don’t use them?

No. AI Credits are designed as a monthly allowance. At the start of each new billing month, your AI Credits reset to the amount included with your current plan (plus any AI add-ons you’ve purchased).

What is Email Quota?

Email Quota is the number of emails Nudge can send on your behalf each month. A few important notes:

  • Quota is measured in emails, not sequences. If a sequence has 3 steps, and Nudge sends all 3 follow-ups, that counts as 3 emails.
  • Reminder emails sent by Nudge also count toward your quota.
  • Your original emails sent directly from Gmail are not counted against Nudge’s Email Quota.
  • Email Quota refreshes monthly according to your plan level.
If you regularly hit your quota, you can upgrade or purchase additional capacity on the Automagical Nudge page.

What do I get on the Free-for-Life tier?

On the Free-for-Life tier, you get:

  • 15 automated emails per month (sequences + reminder emails combined).
  • 20 AI Credits per month for AI-generated follow-ups and suggestions.
These refresh automatically each month and remain free forever.

The Free tier includes a subtle attribution in emails that Nudge sends for you — a small “⚡ nudge” text linked to automagicalapps.com/nudge. Paid tiers either minimize or remove this branding depending on your plan.

What happens if I hit my Email Quota or run out of AI Credits?

If you run out of Email Quota:

  • Nudge will stop sending new automated emails (new sequences or reminders).
  • Your existing schedule will pause until your quota refreshes or you upgrade.
If you run out of AI Credits:
  • You can still create and send sequences manually.
  • You just won’t be able to click Generate with AI until your credits reset or you purchase more.
You can always check your current usage from the Profile / Quota area in the Nudge sidebar.

How is Nudge Different?

How does Nudge compare to tools like CloudHQ, Mailshake, GMass, or Lemlist?

Tools like CloudHQ, Mailshake, GMass, and Lemlist are powerful — but they’re often designed for heavy, impersonal mail merge campaigns that live in a separate UI from your inbox.

Automagical Nudge is different. We focus on:

  • AI automation that feels human: Smart follow-ups and Inbox Monitor, without the “spray and pray” feeling.
  • Deep Gmail integration: Nudge feels like a native part of Gmail, not a separate platform.
  • Featherweight UX: Clean, fast, and easy to use — especially for solo operators, small teams, and busy professionals.
If you’ve felt overwhelmed by heavy outreach tools, Nudge is designed to give you 80% of the value with 10% of the complexity.

Who is Nudge For?

Which professionals get the most out of Nudge?

Nudge is valuable for anyone who relies on email communication. Our most active users include:

  • Sales teams: Close more deals with persistent, automated follow-ups that intelligently stop on reply.
  • Recruiters: Keep candidates warm and engaged throughout the hiring process without manual effort.
  • Founders & Marketers: Conduct personalized outreach at scale without blasting generic newsletters.
  • Customer Success & Account Managers: Ensure renewals, QBRs, and check-ins never quietly slip through the cracks.
  • Schools & Nonprofits: Simplify district-wide or community communications and announcements.
  • Busy professionals: Anyone who lives in Gmail and wants a gentle safety net for follow-ups and action items.

Command Center, Inbox Monitor & Analytics

What is the Command Center?

The Command Center is your home base for Nudge:

  • Open it by clicking the green unicorn icon on the left sidebar of Gmail (under your inbox labels).
  • See all of your active nudges and reminders in one place.
  • View recipients, subjects, next send dates, and sequence status.
  • Quickly cancel or edit sequences and reminders without hunting through threads.
Think of it as a single-pane-of-glass view of everything Nudge is doing on your behalf.

How does Inbox Monitor decide which emails to show?

Inbox Monitor uses AI to spot threads that may need your attention. It looks for:

  • Emails in your recent history (usually the last month).
  • Threads you haven’t replied to yet.
  • Messages that appear to contain open tasks, requests, or questions.
It’s not a replacement for reading your inbox, but it’s a powerful safety net that helps you catch important emails before they go cold.

Can I permanently hide a thread from Inbox Monitor?

Yes. In Inbox Monitor:

  • Click the 💀 (Skull) icon to kill a thread.
  • Nudge will stop surfacing that thread in Inbox Monitor, even if someone replies again later.
  • You can still access the thread normally in Gmail — it’s only hidden from the Inbox Monitor suggestions.

What analytics does Automagical Nudge provide?

In the Analytics section of the Command Center, you’ll see:

  • The number of nudges and reminders you’ve sent, completed, and canceled.
  • Breakdowns by domain (e.g., which companies you nudge the most).
  • A historical and future-facing view of nudges over time, so you can see upcoming workload.
This helps you understand your follow-up habits, spot patterns, and fine-tune your sequences for better results.

Troubleshooting & Support

Why does Nudge feel slow in my Gmail?

In most cases, Nudge runs very fast — especially via the Chrome Extension. If you’re noticing slowness:

  • Make sure you’re primarily using the Chrome Extension on desktop for the full experience.
  • Keep in mind that the Workspace Add-on (especially on mobile or in the side-panel) is subject to Google’s add-on platform limits and can feel slower — this is largely outside our control.
  • Try refreshing Gmail and closing extra tabs if your browser feels sluggish overall.
For heavy daily usage, we recommend using the extension on desktop and reserving the add-on for quick on-the-go actions in the Gmail app.

I installed the extension but don’t see the green unicorn or Nudge panel.

Try the following steps:

  • Click the puzzle icon in Chrome and pin Automagical Nudge.
  • Click the pinned green unicorn and complete the sign-in flow.
  • Refresh Gmail after signing in.
  • Make sure you’re viewing Gmail in Chrome, not another browser.
If you still don’t see Nudge, reach out to us with a screenshot and we’ll help you get unstuck.
