Getting Started & Basics

How do I open Slides Translator?

Go to your Google Slides menu, click on Extensions, hover over Slides Translator, and click Translate to open the sidebar.

How do I start a translation?

Once the sidebar is open, select your language, choose your text or slide, and click the "Translate" button.

Translate vs Translate All?

Translate acts only on what you have selected (one slide, one text box, etc.). Translate All Slides translates the entire deck at once.

Can I translate just one text box?

Yes. Simply click on the text box you want to translate so it is highlighted, then click the standard Translate button.

Does formatting stay the same?

Yes. We retain positioning, fonts, bolding, and style. The translated text replaces the original text in the exact same layout.

How many languages are there?

Using the Google Translation engine, you have access to over 100 languages.

What engines are available?

We support Google, DeepL, and Gemini engines.

Is it free?

Free users have unlimited lifetime usage of the tool with the Google engine.

Who gets DeepL/Gemini?

DeepL and Gemini are premium engines available to school districts and business license holders.

Translating Images & Graphics

Can I translate images?

Yes, there are three distinct ways to translate text found inside images.

Method 1: Extract Text Only

Toggle Translate Image Text. This pulls text out of the image and gives it to you as a caption, leaving the image alone.

Method 2: With Editable Text

Turn ON With Editable Text. This overlays the translated text on the image as real, editable text boxes you can click and type in.

Method 3: Without Editable Text

Turn OFF With Editable Text. This creates a new, flat image with the text translated. You cannot edit the text afterwards.

Can I edit translated image text?

Yes, if you used "With Editable Text", you can change the font size, color, bolding, or even the words themselves.

What if the text is too small?

Sometimes translation shifts font sizes. Just click the text box and resize it using standard Google Slides tools.

Why is the font black?

If you translate without editable text, the AI standardizes fonts to black. Use "With Editable Text" to customize it.

My image looks blurry/messy?

Complex images with lots of colors or tight text don't work well with Editable Text mode. Try unchecking "With Editable Text" for complex diagrams.

What are artifacts?

Sometimes the AI mistakes a shape (like a cat's mouth) for a letter. If this happens, try a different translation method for that image.

How do I revert an image?

The original image is preserved behind the translated one. Simply delete the translated image to reveal the original.

Background Images?

Yes! Go to Options and enable Translate Background Images. This is great for slides where text is locked in the background.

Best practice for images?

Translation is not one-size-fits-all. We recommend trying "With Editable Text" first, and if it looks messy, undo it and try "Without Editable Text".

Advanced Features

What is "Make a Copy"?

This creates a brand new file in your Drive with the translated presentation, keeping your original file untouched.

How do I trigger "Make a Copy"?

Turn the toggle ON, and then click Translate All Slides. It does not work with the single 'Translate' button.

Speaker Notes?

Yes, we can translate them. Toggle Translate Speaker Notes in the options menu.

What is the Glossary?

The Glossary lets you define specific words (like brand names) to ensure they are translated exactly how you want, every time.

How does "Summarize" work?

Click the Summarize button to generate a 5-bullet point summary of your deck on a new slide at the front of the presentation.

Voice / Audio?

You can transcribe speech onto slides or generate AI voice-overs using the sidebar tools.

Visit the Member Portal to manage or cancel your subscription.

I don't see the app?

Ensure you are logged into the same Google account you installed it with. This is the most common issue.
